The deadly 2013 explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, Tex., was a culmination of a century of immigration, agriculture, government and growth. It was also the prologue to an epic investigation, a baffling twist and a series of epiphanies on what it means to prosper, to doubt, to be safe, to recover, to believe, to be a community.
