The storm killed at least 22 people in Nicaragua and Costa Rica and is intensifying as it approaches the Gulf Coast. The hurricane is expected to make landfall between late Saturday and early Sunday. "Life-threatening storm surge flooding is likely" in some areas, the National Hurricane Center said, and warnings have been issued for southeastern Louisiana and coastal Mississippi and Alabama.
