Nate upgraded to Category 1 hurricane as it barrels toward Gulf Coast

Hurricane Nate had maximum sustained winds estimated at 80 mph and could gain more strength before making landfall on the central Gulf Coast. The National Weather Service put coastal communities from Louisiana to the Alabama-Florida border under a hurricane warning, while New Orleans officials evacuated three low-lying areas of the city.
