Nate upgraded to hurricane as it barrels toward flood-prone New Orleans

Hurricane Nate had maximum sustained winds estimated at 80 mph and was forecast to continue gaining strength as it hurtled toward the Gulf Coast. The National Weather Service put coastal Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama under a hurricane warning, while New Orleans officials evacuated three low-lying areas of the city.
