Nobel Prize in physics awarded to a Canadian woman and men from the U.S. and France. They developed ways to use light as tools.

The scientists — American Arthur Ashkin, Gerard Mourou of France and Donna Strickland of Canada — developed ways to use light as tools. Strickland is the first woman to win a Nobel Prize in physics since 1963. The committee hailed their groundbreaking inventions in laser physics. This is a developing story. It will be updated.
