Hits (and misses) at the movies point to a system driven by profit margins

CRITIC'S NOTEBOOK | The philosophical problem in Hollywood is that executives continue to labor under the misapprehension that they're "business guys," not filmmakers. The fatal misunderstanding is when the studio heads believe that simply repurposing preexisting material with a built-in fan base is enough.
